Petrol pumps closed as security measure

Petrol pumps in the Commercial Capital were ordered to remain closed from 3 pm onwards on Sunday during the Carnival float parade as part of unprecedented security arrangements.
Nearly half-a-dozen pumps located along the parade route were ordered to be shut down between 3 pm and 8 pm as a precautionary measure.
DySP Umesh Gaonkar said the police in Margao have been taking utmost security measures since the Margao bomb blast on the eve of Diwali festival two years ago so as not to leave anything to chance.
“These are all part of elaborate security measures worked out by the police, especially after the bomb blast incident,” he said, adding “when 30,000-odd people assemble in a public place, we have to take these precautionary measures.”
When Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was asked to react to the news run by a local channel over a red alert in Margao, he said all security measures have been put in place in the city as a precautionary measure.
