MARGAO: The post graduate students of Goa Dental College have taken umbrage to the fact that the finance department has ignored their demands on their stipend.
The students were reacting to the recent proposal of the finance department to hike the remuneration of junior resident doctors including that of para-clinical and pre-clinical junior residents.
In November 2015, the graduate students wrote to the government requesting a hike in their stipend. But till date no decision has been taken or their request.
The students pointed out that they had received a green signal from the Dean and the health minister and hoped the finance department would approve the hike soon.
“All over the country, the clinical post graduate students of medical and dental are paid the same amount of stipend. But we, despite of being in a clinical field, have to face this issue. Our request to do away with this discrepancy has not been looked into by the government since last one year,” complained the student group
All over India, dental post graduate students are considered and paid the scale of a ‘junior resident’, they said and lamented that the same is not the case in Goa.
“As all the others posts like lecturer, professor, senior resident, and interns of GMC and GDC are paid the same, there shouldn’t be any discrepancy amongst the PG students of both the Institutes, as we all come under the same campus and university,” said the students.
