PANJIM: The election to the post of sarpanch of the Pissurlem panchayat has been scheduled on April 9, Panchayat Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Parsekar said that there has been no hardship caused to the village panchayat, as currently the deputy sarpanch holds all responsibilities.
The Minister was replying to the calling attention motion moved by Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane who sought to know the steps initiated by government to hold election of the post of sarpanch.
“Pissurlem panchayat is without a Sarpanch for the last 21 days and that all the work of the panchayat has come to standstill causing hardships to the people of the area,” Rane said.
Five of the seven members of the Pissurlem panchayat had served a no-confidence motion against its sarpanch, Vijay Parab, last month. Parab, who had taken over as sarpanch of Pissurlem on May 28, 2012, has been accused of failing to take panchas into confidence while functioning.
