MARGAO: Activist Kashinath Shetye has lodged a criminal complaint with the Colva police against Trinamool Congress leader Churchill Alemao, wife Fatima and children for allegedly registering their births in Portugal.
In the complaint, Shetye drew attention of the police to the violation of various provisions of the law by Churchill and his family members by voluntarily acquiring the Portuguese citizenship.
He has prayed to the police to book members of Churchill family under the relevant provisions of the law.
When contacted, a senior police officer informed that the Colva police has not registered any case against the Alemao family on grounds that the appropriate authority to decide on issues concerning citizenship is the Union Home Ministry and not the police.
Shetye’s complaint comes days after Elvis Gomes, PA to Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva, had lodged a complaint before the Union Home Ministry to delete the names of Churchill, wife Fatima, son Savio and three daughters claiming they have registered their births in Portugal.
Churchill, however, rubbished the petition, while challenging his detractors to delete his name and that of his family members from the electoral roll.
