MARGAO, SEPT 20
Social activist Anthony D’Silva has knocked the doors of the State Police Complaint Authority seeking action against Margao PI Santosh Desai for depriving him of participating in the Independence Day event  by PI Desai and other policemen.
In his complaint, D’Silva said he was prevented from carrying on his duty and exercising his constitutional right to protest and also an obligation to preserve the state and too live in clean and hygienic surroundings.
“On August 15, I had gone to participate in the Independence day celebrations along with the messages and was sitting on the cement benches outside the Aga Khan garden (MMC garden) with plastic bottles around my neck, Thermocol cap on the head and a rubber tyre by my side to convey a message on the garbage situation in the state”, he said, adding that the policemen forced him to immediately quit the place and tore the banners on instructions from PI Desai.
He said PI Desai then ordered the policemen to take me to the police station and was detained at the police station for three long hours without notice to his family or his lawyer and released only after intervention of some NGOs who were present on the occasion.
