MARGAO: The traffic department has mooted widening of the two major roads leading to the Nehru stadium, as the government reviewed the road, traffic and parking infrastructure in the commercial capital in view of the forthcoming Lusofonia games.

ip of Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar issued instructions to the PWD to prepare estimates for widening of all roads heading to Margao from the northern side of the city.
The traffic department led by DySP Guruprasad Mhapne suggested widening of the Arlem-Ravindra Bhavan road and the Ambaji-Tata showroom road uptil Verna to take the heavy traffic load during the games. DySP Mhapne pointed out that the government has acquired land for broadening of the Arlem-Ravindra Bhavan stretch of the road and insisted that the same be widened before the ensuing games.
He stressed on the need to widen the stretch of road from Ravindra Bhavan to Damodar temple near the stadium, with provision for footpaths and railings.
As far as the Ambaji-Tata showroom, Verna road is concerned the traffic department underlined the need to develop the road before the games.
When contacted, the Sports Minister said the meeting reviewed various aspects of traffic and road network in relation to the ensuing games. “Instructions have been issued to the PWD to prepare estimates of road widening and development of the main roads.”
