Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his two-day visit to poll-bound Assam today, with a major cultural event scheduled for Saturday evening in Guwahati. Around 10,000 artists will perform the traditional Bagurumba dance, one of the most significant cultural expressions of the Bodo community.
Bagurumba, known for its graceful movements inspired by nature and butterflies, has been practised for centuries and is closely associated with the Bwisagu festival. Traditionally performed by women, the dance is accompanied by handmade instruments such as the kham drum and sifung bamboo flute.

Calling it a historic moment, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the event would take the vibrant Bodo folk dance to a global stage. The performance is being seen as one of the biggest cultural showcases in the state’s history, symbolising peace, identity, and cultural revival.
