PMC issues final notices to 11 scrap yard owners

The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has issued final notices to eleven persons for operating illegal scrap yards.
Of this, five persons have been asked to demolish the illegal structures within 15 days, whereas balance six, have been asked to discontinue their activities.
The PMC also proposes to initiate further action against the persons who have been served with final notices if they do not demolish their illegal structures within given period, submitted Deputy Collector, Ponda through the affidavit filed before the Bombay High Court at Goa.
One Jatin Ramaiya through a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed made allegations that numerous illegal scrap yards operated within PMC, and more so in the residential areas.
The authorities concerned were directed to explain on alleged illegal scrap yards operating within municipal jurisdiction.
The deputy collector through the affidavit filed has stated that the illegal business of running the scrap yard has otherwise been stopped on account of the scrap yard being sealed in terms of the orders passed under section 133 of the Code of Criminal Procedure by the Sub divisional magistrate, Ponda. The matter came up for hearing on Monday morning it was adjourned till Wednesday.
