Akhadkar, a resident of Navta, Cortalim, was convicted in a criminal case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The Court had asked him to pay compensation of Rs 3.20 lakh in a cheque bounce case. Since he failed to pay the compensation amount, he was

sentenced to undergo one-year simple imprisonment.

Akhadkar further failed to appear in the criminal appeal proceedings related to his conviction after which the Court issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him. The Court had asked the Vasco Police Inspector to apprehend the accused

and produce him before the court by January 27.
