PANJIM: A meeting was convened by the in-charges of all police stations in the North Goa District with presidents and office-bearers of Devasthan/Temple committees, along with temple representatives, to discuss and implement robust security measures for temples.
The primary focus was on preventing temple thefts and ensuring the safety of devotees, temple properties, idols, fund box, valuable articles (including gold ornaments), and other valuables, as well as cash both currency and coins.

The meeting emphasised the mandatory installation of CCTV cameras, burglary alarms and adequate illumination in temple areas.
The discussion covered various aspects of temple security, with enthusiastic participation from representatives at 11 police stations. The meeting at Anjuna police station is scheduled on Sunday.
With overall participation of over 200 temple representatives, this initiative, held by concerned Jurisdictional in-charges, supervised by Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) under the guidance of SP North, Akshat Kaushal, IPS, aims to safeguard our cultural heritage and places of worship, providing a secure environment for devotees.
Meanwhile, the Pernem police has created a WhatsApp group of the temple committee members to prevent theft in temple and for their suggestions/feedback in better policing.
The Pernem police has maintained a register upon the instruction of Pernem DySP Jibva Dalvi, at every temple and patrolling staff will visit the temple and sign the register.
The temple committee member were requested to check the register every morning and if no sign or entry of patrolling police staff was found, the same to be brought to light in a WhatsApp group so that superior were aware that staff were not visiting the temple.
The patrolling at temples not only help in prevention of theft but also it will help to maintain police presence in area and other unwanted incident can also be prevented, according to DySP Dalvi.
Some committee member raised issue of groups sitting near the isolated places, Dalvi said, adding that this menace can also be prevented by the staff carrying out patrolling.
