The burglars gained entry into the shop by breaking open the locks its shutter.
According to Baskar Khambli, the owner of Gourish liquor shop, located near Menino Hotel, when he went to his shop on Tuesday morning, he found the shutter locks broken, goods ransacked, liquor bottles broken and cartons of liquor bottles strewn on the floor. Cash worth Rs 60,000 and costly liquor bottles worth Rs 30,000 were also missing, he said.
Khambli filed a complaint to this effect with the Ponda police who contacted a panchanama and are investigating the case.
Meanwhile, an abortive bid was made on a general store in the vicinity of the burgled liquor shop. Since the general store had two shutters, apparently not wanting to take a risk, the burglars abandoned their bid after breaking open the locks of the first shutter.
Nath Subrai Pai, the owner of Ganganath Trading, said that he has fixed two shutters for safety. On Tuesday morning, when Pai went to his shop he found the locks of the first shutter broken but that of the second one was intact.
Locals shop owners said it was worrying that despite having CCTV cameras in the locality, such burglaries are taking place.
