PONDA: Ponda Shigmo parade, held after a gap of two years, received good response from Pondaitees as thousands came out to overcome boredom of COVID-19 pandemic and enjoyed the traditional floats.
It may be recalled that the State-level annual Shigmo parades of 2021 were cancelled to prevent spread of the COVID-19 infection.
However this year, as the Shigmo was announced at the last moment and due to shortage for time, the number of floats was reduced to 50 per cent as compared to the 2019.
This year there were around 13 floats, 7 Romatamel, 7 folk dance troupes, beside fancy dress participants.
The parade began with Romatamel troupes dancing to the tunes of “dhol tashas”, folkdance fancy dress followed by colourful floats based on various mythological concept.
MLAs Ravi Naik, Govind Gaude and former MP Adv Narendra Savoikar were present on the occasion.
