PONDA: Ponda Vikas Samiti (PVS) has denounced the Ponda city traffic management plan as an exercise without taking people into confidence and has claimed that the flawed plan would lead to unnecessary wastage of funds.
Addressing a news conference in the city, PVS Secretary Milind Mhadgut claimed that those in power are misguiding people under the pretext of developing Ponda city.
“In the draft traffic management plan, flyovers have been proposed but in reality they are not needed. It is just a waste of money and people have been not taken into confidence,” claimed Milind Mhadgut.
“There are various business establishments that will suffer because of the flyovers and shopkeepers who are going to be affected claimed that they have no idea about the plans to construct the flyovers,” informed Mhadgut.
Added PVS President Ram Kunkolienkar, “It is surprising to note that some of our members who wished to examine the plan and subsequently give their suggestions were not allowed on grounds that it cannot be done without the MLA’s or the minister’s permission. Is this master plan for public benefit or for the benefit of the politicians?” he asked.
When contacted, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar refuted claims made by the PVS. “There were over 20 meeting in the PMC and even the traffic management plan was open to the public. However at that time, no one from this group (PVS) came or even gave their suggestions, he said.
