MARGAO: Independent legislator Vijai Sardessai has cautioned the BJP that the Modi model of intolerance will not be accepted by Goans, even as he demanded the arrest of the accused involved in the attack on Vishnu Surya Wagh
Addressing the media, Sardesai said the chief minister is facing a final test to prove himself on the law and order front. “The chief minister has failed to solve the Vasco rape case. While the chief minister has been overactive in the Tarun Tejpal case, he should show the same zeal and urgency in nabbing the accused in the dastardly attack on the San Andre MLA”, he demanded.
He said the attack on Wagh brings back memories on the gruesome killing of BJP leader Haren Pandiya’s killing in Gujarat, who had questioned the Gujarat Chief Minister for the decision to parade the dead bodies of Hindus killed in the Godra carnage.
Referring to BJP president Vinay Tendulkar’s statement blaming the attack on NCP supporters, Sardesai demanded to know why he was not attacked by the mob if they were NCP supporters.
Questioning the silence of the BJP MLAs on the issue, he demanded to know whether the BJP leadership has issued a “fatwa” to the party MLAs to stay away from Wagh. “Is this one way to get Vishnu Wagh liberated from the BJP or to make Wagh leave the party. Wagh had been vocal in criticising the party leadership and was not toeing the party line on many issue”, he said, He also urged the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar not to invite BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to address a public meeting in Goa, predicting the BJP would loose both the seats if Modi comes down to Goa.
