Portuguese-era dilapidated structures get demolition notice in Canacona

Canacona: The Canacona Municipal Chief Officer (CO) recently inspected structures in the Chaudi market which are in dangerous condition. Based on the inspection, concerned people were issued notices on January 4 to evict and demolish the structures within 15 days or would have to face action as per the law.

The notice had also mentioned that pedestrians and other locals from survey no. 60/3 ward face a potential threat from the structures.

Meanwhile, locals have questioned as to why the action was not taken despite notices being issued 2-3 times before.

There are 6 government as well as privately owned Portuguese-era structures which were built around 100 to 150 years back and pose grave danger to the market visitors. A part of one of the structure collapsed last year in July. Since the incident took place at night, nobody was injured however some of the shops were damaged.
