Yet another case of abuse of power and authority has been lodged against the Porvorim police inspector Devendra Gad.
One Farida B Khalifa, resident of Soccoro, Porvorim has lodged a complaint with the State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) that the police inspector misused his powers to harass her and her sons.
The SPCA in its order passed has said that “there is sufficient evidence in the case which appears a prima facie case of gross misconduct or abuse of authority on the part of police inspector Devendra Gad in the discharge of duties, which merit further investigation.”
Further, the order passed by SPCA chairman Justice Dr Eurico Da Silva, says, “The same material suggest also eventual involvement of one more officer ASI A B Kenkre, in the incident complained by the petitioner.”
According to the complainant, her son Nasruddin Mohammed was assaulted by one Venkatesh Prabhu, proprietor of M/s Prabhu Constructions, which he reported at the Porvorim police in November last. However, the complainant said that the police did not take any action until she reported the matter to the DIG, SP (North) and SDPO (Porvorim).
“One day after my letter to higher ups the PI called me alongwith my son and Mr Prabhu and tried to get my signature on the paper which said I am withdrawing the complaint,” she said adding “I objected to this and moved out.”
Some days later, the complainant said, my sons Nasruddin and Azruddin received notices from deputy collectors under Sec 111 of CrPC that the Porvorim PI has informed him that there likelihood of breach of peace in the locality on account of dispute between my sons and the informant M/s Prabhu and they have been asked to appear in person in the SDM (Mapusa) office.
“It may be kindly noted that the PI has falsely implicated my sons and the principal offender Venkaetsh Prabhu has been made as a witness and escaped without any charge,” the complainant stated.
The complainant also said that they have been staying at Prabhu Residency for three years and the Mr Prabhu and his employees had been harassing them since then.
She claimed to have reported the matter to the police, who failed to take any action.
This is second such complaint against Gad in last two months, one Pravita Nagvekar, a resident of Mapusa, had complained recently that Porvorim police inspector Devendra Gad physically assaulted her in front of the public and snatched away his mangalsutra.
