ARAMBOL: Monsoon preparedness which normally begins by April end has been delayed in Arambol due to scarcity of funds much to the annoyance of locals.
With rains round the corner, the villagers from this coastal belt have hit out at the panchayat for dilly dallying with pre-monsoon works and alleged that funds have been exhausted by the civic body without proper planning.

The main and internal roads are really bad and need to be levelled, said one of the locals.
“Many gutters are chocked and sewage water will flow on the roads once it rains. Besides, the roads are dotted with potholes,” said a local, adding that the rain will bring pain to pedestrians and motorists.
“There was no need for the panchayat body to spend funds according to their whims and fancies. The funds reserved by the previous body have been wasted,” said former panch Pravin Vaingankar.
“The panchas are expected to know their rights. Despite Arambol being a famous tourist destination which brings in a lot of revenue for the village and State, it lacks development,” he added.
Sarpanch Bernard Fernandes said that a list of pre-monsoon works that have to be undertaken has been sent for further approval. “We expect the works to get approved,” he said.
