President’s Office Orders Probe Into Xeldem Temple Land Dispute

The Xeldem land dispute has taken a new turn after the President’s Secretariat pressed the Goa Revenue Department to respond quickly to allegations of illegal entries and unauthorised construction on roughly 13,000 sq m of temple-owned property. Acting on the complaint, Under Secretary (Revenue-II) Agnelo D’Souza has sent a direction to the South Goa Collector demanding an immediate investigation and verification of the claims. The land in question, identified as Survey No. 172/2 and linked to Shree Santeri Shantadurga Devasthan, is currently overseen by the Quepem Mamlatdar. Complainants Vishal Uhas Gauns Dessai and Aditya Raut Dessai allege that outsiders were unlawfully added to the land records without approvals from temple authorities and that officials validated these mutations without proper checks.
