Sanguem : While highly appreciating the government and more particularly the PWD Department, Sanguem for the commencement of the reconstruction work of the dilapidated culvert at Mugoli Sanguem, the villagers have appealed to the PWD to provide them with alternate temporary light vehicle road access till the completion of the construction work of the culvert.
It is pertinent to note here that after a report in the ‘Herald’ last month highlighting the precarious condition of the lone culvert proceeding to Mugoli and Marangann ward of Sanguem Village, the PWD had erected a sign board on either side of the weak culvert banning total movement of heavy vehicles over the weak culvert. Moreover the PWD authorities had also assured the villagers of immediately undertaking the reconstruction work of the culvert before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
As was promised, the PWD commenced with the reconstruction work on Monday the work is in full swing and is expected to complete the work in possible the next fortnight. They are using pre-stressed cement blocks, informed sources.
However after the PWD commenced with the reconstruction work, the villagers are left with no motorable road for their light vehicles to proceed to and from the village. Though the PWD has made arrangement for two wheelers to proceed to the village by constructing a temporary road, it isn’t gone too well with the villagers.
The villagers have urged the PWD authorities to widen the temporary road by at least another one metre so that the villagers would be able to take their light vehicles to and from the village, particularly at times of emergency.
Under the present circumstances, in the event of any eventualities, the villagers will have to take the patients on two wheelers and this may prove costly in certain cases of illness, claimed a villager Subhash Gaonkar.
The villagers pointed out that since there is enough width to construct a road wide enough for four wheelers to pass by laying an additional pipe an apt decision from PWD to lay an additional pipe and extend the width of the temporary road by atleast another one metre will relieve the villagers to a great extent, claim the villagers.
