MARGAO: The proposed Mumbai-Goa double-decker train chugged in at the Margao railway station as part of the trials on Sunday evening, with railway officials exuding confidence that the train, as and when it gets the nod, will help passengers on the Mumbai-Margao route get easy access to tickets.
Officials of the Research, Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Central Railway, Konkan Railway carried out the trials. KR officials said the trials will continue throughout this month before a detailed report is submitted to the Commissioner of Railway safety for final approval.
Sources said the 10-coach double-decker has passed through the numerous tunnels dotting the Konkan Railway route, adding that the officials are assessing the mandatory technical details, such as oscillation etc.
KRC Sr Manager, Public Relations Manager, Baban Ghatge said the train has chugged in at the platform on the Konkan railway police station side as part of the trials.
“The 10-coach train has passed through the tunnels. The trials are monitored by the RDSO and other railway officials”, Ghatge said.
A senior official said the introduction of the double-decker train on the Mumbai-Margao route will help the passengers to get easy access to train tickets on the route.
“The carrying capacity of the double-decker train is much more than the ordinary trains”, he said.
Replying to a question, the railway authorities would fix the time table for the running of the train on the route once the train gets the green signal from the Commissioner of railway safety.
“The railway authorities would work out a suitable time for the running of the train taking into account the prevailing congestion on the route”, he added.
