Speaking to Herald, locals of Keri said the students had gathered at the school gate on Friday morning and waited till their teacher reached the premises at around 8.15 am.
After the flag hoisting ceremony, the teacher thanked the staff and students for their support. He also clarified that he had punished the girl in good faith.
All the students reportedly went to the stage and shook hands with the teacher. Later, the parents who had also gathered at the flag hoisting ceremony also greeted the teacher and requested the school headmistress to convene an urgent PTA meeting to discuss the matter.
Accepting their demands, the headmistress has convened a special PTA meeting on Sunday.
