CANACONA: Residents of coastal Agonda on Wednesday met Canacona Deputy Collector Prashant Shirodkar and complained about PWD’s (water supply) decision to cut-off water supply to Agonda since last Monday.
It may be recalled that residents of Khola during recent Gram Sabha had passed a resolution not to supply water pumped from the village bodies outside its boundaries.
The infuriated Agonda residents on Wednesday marched to Chaudi and complained to the deputy collector about PWD’s (water supply) decision. Deputy Collector Shirodkar reprimanded the concerned PWD junior engineer and directed him to immediately resume the water supply by Wednesday afternoon.
“The PWD (water supply) Canacona had stopped supplying water to Agonda after Khola residents during Gram Sabha reportedly passed a resolution to stop pumping out water from its water bodies outside their village,” informed a villager.
The angry residents earlier tried to meet PWD (water supply) assistant engineer, who was unavailable. Later, the delegation in the presence of some scribes complained to the deputy collector.
Interestingly speaking informally, Agonda villagers threatened to pass resolutions in the forthcoming Gram Sabhas against permitting Khola villagers to use road passing through Agonda village and barring any tourism or any other activities by Khola residents on Agonda soil.
“A resolution to disallow the supply of electricity alignment passing through Agonda village will be taken in the next Gram Sabha,” said a resident.
