PANJIM: The PWD has asked for Rs 1160 crore from the Centre for six projects to decongest various routes along the National Highways in the State.
The six project details have been submitted to the Union ministry for Roads and Surface Transport under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scheme during a meeting held in Delhi Wednesday.
The six projects include the four laning of National Highway 4 A which includes Khandepar bridge to the tune of Rs 235 crore. Other key projects include the Margao Western NH bypass amounting to Rs 250 crore. Construction of the Ribandar bypass (Old Goa to Panjim) of Rs 199 crore, construction of the Canacona NH bypass including bridges at Maxem all amounting to Rs 238 crore, upgradation to a four lane road from Dhavali to Ponda higher secondary of 4 kilometers stretch amounting to Rs 54 crore and the missing link road in Loutolim village to Verna Industrial estate to the tune of Rs 130 crore.
The PWD has also re-submitted its request for allotment under the Central Road Fund to the tune of Rs 60 crore.
Minister for PWD, Sudin Dhavalikar along with a delegation of officials from the PWD in Goa met officials of the Union ministry in the national capital on Wednesday where the latter has assured to sanction funds for the projects.
Dhavalikar speaking to Herald said, “Land has already been acquired for all the six projects and we will be sending the projects details to the union ministry for preliminary sanctions.”
He added that his discussions with road transport and highways minister Oscar Fernandes, was fruitful and the union ministry has assured in principle to sanction funds to Goa for the proposed projects.
