Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Manuel Colaso on Wednesday filed a complaint against mining trucks operating through Quepem town.
In his complaint filed before the Sub Division Magistrate Quepem, Colaso stated that about 800 loaded mining trucks passes every day via Quepem town.
“Almost all mining trucks are overloaded in violation of the High Court order and in violation of notification dated December 15, 2007, issued by the Director of Transport and in violation of subsequent orders passed by the High Court,” he stated.
The complaint further stated that as the mining trucks are overloaded, a lot of spillage takes place in Quepem town, due to which the road in Quepem town has turned red in colour.
“The spillage can be particularly seen at the speed breakers near Pope John High School and Ambaulim Panchayat. Besides, there is dust pollution in Quepem town which in turn affects traders and other business entrepreneurs doing their business in Quepem town,” states the complaint.
“There is no control from any department against the erring mining trucks nor the mining trucks fear any officials as this mining trucks passes by the side of SDM, offices of Deputy Director of Transport, Executive Magistrate, DySP. Besides, the trucks are driven recklessly,” added Colaso in his complaint.
The complaint further stated that empty/loaded mining trucks sometimes pass through Quepem town between 1 pm and 2 pm and after 6 pm even though during this period, they are prohibited.
“By plying between 1 pm and 2 pm, the mining trucks pose dangers to the school children,” stats the complaint.
The chairperson has requested the SDM to bring the mining traffic under control within 15 days from the date of receipt of his complaint, failing which the people will be forced to come on the road.
The complaint copies have been forwarded to South Goa Collector, Quepem Executive Magistrate, Quepem DySP, Quepem PI and Deputy Director of Transport, Quepem.
