Municipal politics in Quepem has heated up with allegations and counter-allegations surfacing from wards 6 and 7 over ongoing road works, triggering a fresh political row within the Quepem Municipal Council.
Local resident Shripad Shetkar has alleged that hot-mixing work is being carried out unnecessarily on a tar road that was already in good condition. He claimed that nearly ₹7 crore is being spent on the project without any real requirement, raising questions over the utilisation of public funds.
Responding to the allegations, Ward councillor Dayesh Naik refuted the claims, stating that the road had developed several potholes and required proper resurfacing. He said the work was essential to provide safe, durable and long-lasting roads for the public.
Naik further alleged that certain individuals are making false and misleading statements, which are hampering ongoing development works in the municipal area by creating non-issues. He maintained that the project is being executed in the interest of residents and in accordance with development needs.
