QUEPEM: Cashew growers are facing major setback due to low cashew production this season as compared to last in Quepem, Sanguem Talukas as well as in Sanvordem area.

Many farmers complained, “This season cashew yield is very less, some farmers from Sanguem and Quepem areas have not even got half cashew production as compared to last year.”
“We didn’t even recover whatever we had put in for cashew production this year,” few farmers said.
Farmer Shantram Velip from Shigao, Sanvordem said, “The cashew production is very low and also didn’t get proper rates for cashew nut seeds. We are going through losses.” “We are in the end of season and if it rains, it will affect the crop production,” Velip said.
Another farmer from Sanguem, Vitao Tako said that this year there is no much cashew production.
“Whatever cashew yield we got is also affected due to weather change,” said Tako reiterating fear of summer rain which would damage the production further.
During such difficult time, the cashew farmers want support from the government.
“The government should help cashew farmers to increase the rate, if the government disagree on this then it will not be affordable and benefit for cashew production,” Tako said.
Farmer Anand Naik added alongside low production, the labour wage is also high that it is not helping them to gain anything.
