PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said that government has appointed a global agency- Sodexo (food services and facilities management company) to provide balanced and nutritious food as part of health and wellness solution to the patients, doctors and visitors at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim. The facility would be operational from August 1 onwards.
Speaking to media, Rane said that before serving the food to anyone, he himself would taste it to assured its quality, through a surprise visit. In first phase, Minister said that the canteen of in-patients as well as students canteen would be commissioned in next two days. “From August 1 onwards, all the canteen facilities would be put in operation,” he stated.
“Patient care, recovery of patient and nutrition is co-related and that GMC, Nursing institute, GMC Mess and all health services institutions will be catered by Sodexo,” said Rane.
All the canteens attached to GMC were shut last year, after Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) found operation of canteens unhygienic.
Meanwhile, Health Minister took dig at Congress accuses them of trying to once again politicise the formalin-fish issue. Rane even questioned whether Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar is a scientist to testify the fish even without conducting proper testing.
“Congress is just trying to politicise the issue. I feel pity for them as they are left with nothing. They are just trying to ‘fish’ using formalin,” Rane said adding ‘there is nothing to worry about as government is ensuring that quality fish is served to the people of Goa’.
