Opposition leader Pratapsingh Rane has claimed that the Dabolim assembly seat, which the Congress won in the 2012 elections, would remain with them even after the 2017 elections. He added that the party would field a new face this time.
Rane was speaking during the installation ceremony of new committees and cells formed under Dabolim Congress block at Alto Dabolim on Saturday evening.
“The people of Dabolim have always shown their faith in the Congress, and thus, had elected a Congress candidate in last Assembly election. Although the leader who was elected by the people of Dabolim in 2012 has been moving away from the Congress, we have no doubt that the people will again repose their faith in the party and will elect a Congress candidate in the 2017 Assembly elections, although the candidate this time will be a new face,” Rane said.
He also criticized the BJP government for taking U-turns on all promises made during the 2012 elections.
, Rane said, “The government has mastered taking U-turns, and that is why all the promises made by the BJP to the people in 2012 remained unfulfilled. From the medium of instruction issue to the Region Plan and the casino shifting issue, the government has fooled the people.”
He further said, “What hurts people more is the way the BJP reduced the petrol prices and then increased the same in a phased manner. It is now important that the Congress workers work as a team even with the people at the grassroots level to ensure that the party returns to power in 2017.”
Meanwhile, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has appointed former Chicalim sarpanch and present panch Francisco Nunes as Dabolim Block president. The Congress has also constituted several other committees under the Dabolim block. Cassian Pereira has been appointed the Minority Cell president, Mahesh Bhandari the Youth Congress president, Suchitra Shirodkar the Mahila Congress president, Yogesh Kerkar the IT Cell convenor, Uday Prabhu the Cooperative Cell convenor and Nand Kishore Chavan the ST Cell president.
