PORVORIM: The issue of speed breakers in the village dominated the Reis Magos Gram Sabha on Sunday.
The villagers said traffic on the road from Betim to Candolim has increased many folds in recent years and accidents have become a regular feature.
“We had requested the panchayat to erect four speed breakers at various places on the road. It is more than three years now, but the speed breakers have not come into existence,” complained a villager.
Sarpanch Subhash Pednekar informed the villagers that it takes atleast a year to get clearances from the offices of the collector, police and the Directorate of Transport to erect the speed breakers.
“The government has given clearance and the PWD has also issued tender to erect speed breakers, but the contractor has still not commenced the work stating that PWD has not settled his pending bills. I have urged the contractor to start the work urgently,” said Pednekar.
The villagers complained that the service of the gas dealer is not satisfactory and they are not getting the cylinders regularly and urged to take up the matter with the concerned petroleum company. Sarpanch Pednekar agreed to write a letter to the Regional Manager of the petroleum company regarding the grievances of the consumers.
Panchayat Secretary Peter Martins presented the statement of income and expenditure for the financial year, 2012-13. During 2012-13, the Reis Magos Panchayat received grant of Rs 26.11 lakh from the State government. Besides, by way of construction licenses and taxes, the panchayat collected Rs 18.88 lakh and Rs 13.21 lakh respectively. The total income for 2012-13 was Rs 63.13 lakh. In regard to expenditure, the panchayat spent Rs 13.29 lakh towards public works, sanitation and public health (Rs 8.19 lakh) and planning and development (Rs 1.40 lakh).
The panchayat has also spent Rs 38,500 and Rs 43,280 towards social welfare and education and culture respectively.
