In a swift interstate operation, Bicholim Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Sawantwadi, Mahar ashtra, for the brutal murder of a 58-year-old woman at Chikne-Cudnem in Sankhali. The accused, Sagar Ramesh Rawool of Malaiwa di, Shirshinge, had been on the run since May 19 after allegedly killing Shaila Gha di inside her home out of resentment over a rejected marriage proposal regard ing her younger daughter. Following an intensive man hunt, police apprehended him in Maharashtra with as sistance from Crime Branch Unit IV of the Mira-Bhayan dar, Vasai-Virar Police Com missionerate. According to police, the victim, Shaila, wife of late Sanjay Ghadi and a resident of Chikne-Cudnem, was found dead inside her resi dence after Bicholim Police received information about an assault at 3:27 pm on May 19.
During the preliminary inquiry, the victim’s son, Shubham Sanjay Ghadi, informed police that the accused had allegedly tres passed into the house and murdered his mother due to personal resentment after she reportedly rejected his marriage proposal for her younger daughter. Police said the accused allegedly fled the scene af ter stealing a gold chain and the victim’s mobile phone. He also allegedly contacted the victim’s elder daughter by phone, confessed to the crime, and threatened to kill her and other family members. Based on the complaint lodged by Shubham Ghadi, Bicholim Police registered a case under Sections 332(a), 103, 309(4), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and launched an intensive manhunt.
Multiple police teams led by PI Vijay Rane Sardesai were dispatched to various locations including Sawantwadi, Kol hapur, and Mumbai to trace the accused. Through techni cal surveillance and coordinated efforts with Maharashtra Police, investigators tracked the accused’s movement to Thane. In a joint operation, police apprehended Rawool on May 20 near Dwarka Hotel close to Chena Bridge in Thane dis trict. He was later arrested at Kashigaon Police Station and produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mira-Bhayandar, Thane, for transit remand on May 21. Police said the accused is being brought to Bicholim for further investigation after completion of legal formalities. The operation was carried out under the leadership of PI Vijay Rane Sardesai, supervised by SDPO Bicholim Shridevi B V (IPS), and with overall supervision from SP (North Goa) Harish Madkaikar. Further investigation is ongoing.
