Residents living near the Public Works Department (PWD) office at Agali, Fatorda have raised alarm after spotting four to five pythons in the vicinity over the past few days, triggering safety concerns in the area.
According to locals, the reptiles were seen near a site where scrap material had allegedly been dumped by the PWD for the last six to seven years. With no regular clearance undertaken, the space had reportedly turned into a mini jungle, creating what residents described as a potential hazard for families and children in the neighbourhood.

Concerned residents approached the Deputy Collector, submitting videos and photographs of the sightings as evidence. Acting on the complaint, the Deputy Collector directed the PWD to immediately clear and clean the area to ensure public safety.
An animal rescuer was subsequently called to the spot and successfully traced and captured one python. However, he cautioned that there is a strong possibility of more reptiles being present.
“In the video, I saw four to five pythons, but I could locate only one. There are chances that more may surface again, possibly after six months,” the rescuer said.
Authorities are expected to monitor the area closely while clean-up operations are carried out.
