Since kharif crops got destroyed due to incessant rains, the farmers look towards the rabi crops as the only sustainable source of livelihood, which were stopped due to non-operation of the sluice gates.

The farmers are delighted to see the amount of water harvested to cultivate the rabi crop. The restoration of the sluice gates has brought new hope to the farming community, enabling them to return to agricultural production after a prolonged period of challenges. “I ensured and supported the farmers in getting the Mollem Bund sluice gates at Nuvem – Dovandem operational through the Water Resources Department (WRD),” said Nuvem Congress leader Everson Vales.

“The bund now supplements an abundant amount of water to the fields due to water harvesting. This practice of water harvesting was stopped by the Water Resources Department for many years,” Vales added.
