Retaining wall collapses, damages gas pipeline, vehicles at Ponda

PONDA: In a distressing incident, the retaining wall of Damodar Apartment at Prabhunagar in Ponda collapsed due to the incessant rain over the past two days. 

The debris fell onto a parked car and a bike below the wall, causing significant damage. Additionally, a gas pipeline passing through the area was also punctured as a result. The incident occurred around 10.30 pm on Thursday, leading to the immediate response from the authorities.

The retaining wall, standing at a height of 3.5 metres, gave way and crashed onto the parked vehicles. The impact also caused a rupture in the gas line, resulting in the release of a foul stench in the vicinity. 

However, the gas authorities promptly intervened and managed to stop the leakage. Sushil Morajkar, the incharge of the Ponda Fire station, rushed to the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance. The Curti-Khandepar Panchayat also conducted an inspection of the site to evaluate the extent of the damage.
