PONDA: It was an unusual gift for motorists obeying traffic rules, as volunteers of the Rotaract Club of Ponda handed the law-abiding motorists a chocolate and a mobile SIM card.
Some motorists who were wearing helmets/seat belts were taken aback after being intercepted by the Ponda Traffic Cell. Their anxiety soon turned into relief when they were greeted by the Rotaract Club volunteers. Pamphlets stating, “We appreciate you for following traffic rules, India is proud of you,” were distributed by the volunteers to various motorists found adhering to traffic rules on Friday evening.
Apart from this, the volunteers also distributed a chocolate and a mobile SIM card to motorist who wore helmets and seat belts.
A group of about 10 volunteers were assisted by personnel from the Ponda Traffic Cell.
According to information, the project titled ‘U-Turn’ has been organised as part of a road safety drive by the Rotaract Club of Ponda since last year. Two groups of about ten volunteers each took part in the drive at the Farmagudi Circle and at Borim.
“Those found following traffic rules were appreciated and as a token of appreciation, we gave them a card with our message from Rotaract Club of Ponda, a SIM card and a chocolate. Those people found either without helmets or without seat belts were urged to follow the rules,” said Megha Rane, a volunteer from the Rotaract Club of Ponda.
