MARGAO: Revolutionary Goans on Friday strongly objected to the government cancelling Shigmo celebrations and accused the BJP of only paying lip service to Hindutva while in reality working against the Hindu festivals.
“Why the casinos where large crowds gather are not shut down and why is the government not only allowing but in fact promoting Hunar Haat festival for non Goans while cancelling Goan local traditional festival like Shigmo,” asked Manoj Parab founder of Revolutionary Goans. He said the government had allowed dances for the New Year and even permitted Carnival floats while only closing down Shigmo festival.

“The people who came to Goa for New Year celebrations came from places where coronavirus cases had already occurred though the pandemic did not strike Goa then,” he said.
“It is high time people of Goa realise that the BJP is only paying lip service to Hindutva and hence stop voting for them thinking that it is a party for and of the Hindus,” he said while pointing out that even during the COVID-19 pandemic the government had allowed beach parties including Sunburn to take place.
