Ribandar jetty not for commercial use, says minister

PANJIM: Following opposition from the residents, Minister of Ports Michael Lobo on Tuesday said that the government will revoke the permission, if any, granted to private player to operate the jetty located opposite the old Ribandar hospital, for commercial purpose.

On Monday, Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate had written to the minister requesting to withdraw the permission granted for jetty’s commercial use. 

Ribandar Health Care Committee headed by local Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) Corporator Rupesh Halankar had resolved to vehemently oppose any commercial use of the small jetty. Pointing out that Ribandar has been traditionally a fishing locality; the locals had stated that for decades the jetty has been a regular fishing point for the local people.
