Rs 1 crore defamation notice served

Adv John Monteiro says Meenaxi Gaunkar and Clafacio Dias during the ZP campaigning made remarks that have caused great injury to his reputation

MARGAO: Adv John Monteiro has served a defamation demand notice on Meenaxi Gaunkar and Clafacio Dias for Rs 1 crore for their alleged defamatory speeches at the public meeting during the Zilla panchayat elections. 
Adv Monteiro claims that Gaunkar who was a candidate for the ZP elections and Dias who was a ZP member in their speeches made unfounded, factually wrong and highly defamatory statements which caused great injury to his reputation among his party leaders, voters from Cuncolim Constituency and the public in general. Adv Monteiro has demanded for an unqualified apology for his defamation publicised on newspapers within 20 days failing which he has warned of filing a civil suit against the accused if they fail to fulfil his demands.
In the defamation demand notice served to Gaunkar and Dias, Adv Monteiro has claimed that the duo has defamed him by making serious allegations, one such allegation being that the complainant has taken Rs 3 crore from BJP to defeat the Congress candidate. Both have also been accused of stating that Monteiro was hand in gloves with the BJP. The defamation demand notice period ends on May 15.
