PANJIM: A fine of Rs 100 would be imposed on all those failing to wear masks in public places as well as at work place from now onwards.

In an order issued on Friday, Under Secretary Health, Swati Dalvi, said that the State government in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, directs that all persons shall compulsorily wear a face cover in all public places, work places including on the streets, hospitals, working sites etc.
“Any person violating the instructions shall be liable for penalty of Rs 100,” the order stated. “In case of non-payment, the person shall be liable for action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860,” it added further.
The order has been issued under the Goa Epidemic Disease, COVID-19 Regulation 2020. Wearing of masks in the State was made compulsory from April 20.
The government said that mask can include those available with the chemist or even homemade washable masks, which can be used after proper washing and disinfection.
Goa had reported seven cases of COVID-19, all the patients have recovered, with no new cases being reported since April 3.
