PANJIM: Dussehra, considered an auspicious time to make new purchases, especially of vehicles, automobile showrooms and even the RTO remain open on this day.
This year, however, with implementation of the online vehicle registration service which enables buyers and dealers to register vehicles even on a holiday, Directorate of Transport is wondering whether to keep RTO open for registration of new vehicles or not on Dussehra, which falls on Saturday.
Speaking to Herald, Deputy Director of Transport (North), Prakash Azavedo said, “Till now it has not been decided whether RTO will be open for registration of vehicles on Dussehra. Usually there is a representation from the vehicles dealers but now with online registrations, nothing has yet been decided.”
Last year Directorate of Transport had earned a whopping Rs 3.32 crore from 1581 vehicles registered, with Mapusa being the highest in terms of road tax revenue with Rs 83.29 lakh earned, followed by Margao with 64.85 lakh and Panjim with 38.05 lakh.
Meanwhile, auto dealers said they expect an increase in sales, as that Dussehra is an excellent opportunity to achieve excellent sales.
