MARGAO: The Margao Municipality witnessed an uproar on Monday after an attempt was made to manipulate the inspection report of the illegal construction of Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello.
Complainant Savio Dias, who called on the Chief Officer Naveen S L, drew his attention to the surprise inclusion of the name of Gonzaco’s father as the owner of one of the illegal structures of the municipal chairperson.
He pointed that the civic officials are deliberately trying to manipulate the inspection report by including Gonzaco’s father name in the report as the owner to shield the chairperson from disqualification. As Dias created a ruckus in the chamber of the Chief Officer, Naveen called the municipal engineers to seek explanation over the inclusion of the name of Gonzaco’s father in the inspection report. After much deliberation, the municipal engineer conceded that the two illegal structures coming within the road widening area and the set back area belongs to the municipal chairperson.
The matter pertaining to the municipal chairperson will now come up for hearing before the chief officer on January 23, but sources in the know said the chief officer is unlikely to pass any order since he is proceeding on leave.
