MARGAO: In a bid to address persistent traffic bottlenecks and concerns over encroachments, the Rumdamol village panchayat decided to impose a penalty of Rs 3,000 on violators to ensure that reclaimed spaces remain clear and accessible.

A special meeting was convened to formulate effective solutions, following a recent anti-encroachment drive, prompted by an LPG gas cylinder blast at an illegal eatery.
Presiding over the discussions, Rumdamol Sarpanch Muniba Faniband highlighted the need for collaboration with key stakeholders, such as the traffic police and the Goa Housing Board. The panchayat agreed to hold joint meetings with these entities to devise practical strategies for managing traffic flow and addressing the encroachment issue.
A major concern raised during the meeting was the issue of abandoned vehicles along roadsides, which not only obstruct traffic but also pose safety risks. To tackle this problem, the panchayat decided to consult the traffic cell for advice on the legal disposal of such vehicles.
For long-term solutions, the panchayat also sought the intervention of local MLA Ulhas Tuenkar. His assistance was requested to fast-track measures that could provide sustainable relief to the villagers.
