MARGAO: The South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has blamed the Central, Goa and Karnataka BJP governments for the betrayal of the State on the Mhadei river issue.
“The government at the Centre is BJP, the government in Karnataka is BJP and government in Goa also is BJP. In this case, how could the Central Government especially the Environment Ministry grant environmental clearance to Mhadei in Karnataka in the name of drinking water? Because we all know in the name of drinking water, they will also continue irrigation” said Sardinha.
Sardinha also reacted to the State’s late reaction of appealing to the Centre to revert its decision.
“But the biggest surprise is our Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who is pleading ignorance. We want all this to be transparent. We and the entire State would like to know what the contents of the appeal are because the people in the State in the dark “he added.
He added that one should not forget that Mhadei is the lifeline of Goa because it is the only sweet water river, which is feeding Goa.
He reiterated that the blame lies on the three governments including ours for betraying the people of the State.

Naphtha Ship crisis: Sardinha demands that FIR be lodged against MPT Chairman
Speaking on the Naphtha ship that has drifted from Mormugao Port waters and run aground at sea near Dona Paula, Sardinha demanded that the government files an FIR against the MPT Chairman for having allowed the ship to dock at the port.
“Naphtha loaded ship was near Mormugao port and now it has drifted around two kilometres from the coast of Panjim. Luckily up to now, there is no spillage and they are monitoring. But, if anything goes wrong, not only the coast but even our rivers will be polluted and the fish, as well as fishermen of the rivers, will be totally affected” warned Sardinha.
“First of all, how was the ship allowed to enter the port? Goa government should file a FIR against the Chairman of MPT for allowing such a ship, which was unmanned later and not even anchored properly,” said Sardinha, while criticizing the manner in which the vessel had drifted.
