MARGAO: The lone person fighting to clear the goal posts at Sao Jose De Areal open space, Menino Santana Fernandes, has demanded that police officers – Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Naik and Police Inspector of Maina-Curtorim Harish Madkaikar – be sacked. Fernandes has complained that he has been deliberately framed in false complaints of assaulting a minor boy. He has also filed a complaint at the State Police Complaints Authority of being troubled by the police and demanded that Velim MLA Benjamin Silva be made an abettor to the crime of stoning of his house in April 2015 as he had allegedly made an inflammatory speech.
After a long battle in court against the use of open space for public use and erecting goal posts, Fernandes had successfully managed to get the goal posts at the open space in Padre Bhat, Sao Jose De Areal removed. Soon after this removal, Fernandes’ house was stoned allegedly by some locals who he had identified but alleges that Police haven’t taken action against them. Fernandes has provided CCTV footage to the police. The case is currently being heard in the JMFC Margao.
