BJP govt’s policies encouraging inflation, says Luizinho

PANJIM: State Congress chief Luizinho Faleiro said that the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the State by making tall promises and assurances and then resorted to U turns over U turns.

He said that the BJP government’s policies and programmes are encouraging inflation and that the recent hike in water and electricity charges has cut into the pockets of Goans badly.
Faleiro, speaking at the Saligao Block Congress Committee at Alto-Pilerne recently, added that the government is directionless and after over three years in office they have failed to fulfil promises but have put the State into an economic debt trap due to faulty policies.
The largely-attended meeting also had the installation of the Saligao Block Congress Committee.
Faleiro said that the BJP government has increased water tariff by 100 percent and power tariffs by 35 percent, which has badly affected the poor people who were already going through the high cost of vegetables, cereals and rice necessitated due to imposition of entry tax.
Opposition Leader Pratapsing Rane, former Calangute MLA and GPCC general secretary Agnelo Fernandes, vice pesidents Moti Desai and M K Shaikh, general secretary and spokesperson Yatish A Naik, District Congress president Amarnath Panjikar and Menino Peres were present.
Faleiro lamented that BJP’s rule has been a failure as it saw a mining ban, no industrial growth, decrease in tourism and attacks on minorities and asked people to rally round the Congress, which he said is the world’s oldest and largest democratic party. He called upon the Saligao Block Congress Committee to reach the ideology of the Congress Party to the grass roots.
Rane highlighted the shortcomings of BJP in Goa and said that not a single manifesto promise has been fulfilled.
Fernandes said it is necessary to take the Congress ideology to the masses and for that continuous dialogue with the people was necessary.
Naik highlighted the need for propagating the policies and programmes of the Congress so that more people, including youth and women, are attracted to the party.
Some of the block committee members who spoke were Jose Heredia, Joanita D’Souza, Alina Fernandes  and Richard Almeida.  Saligao Block president Celina D’Souza proposed vote of thanks.
while Paul Fernandes compered the function.
