PANJIM: The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services in association with Directorate of Education (SCERT) and M/s Underwriters Laboratories (UL) India is starting a “Safer School Safer India” programme at primary school level.
The content of this training programme would be safety at home, safety at school and safety at public places, do’s and don’ts of Fire Safety, etc.
The department would facilitate the creation and dissemination of the content through audio visual tools (creating CDs) and other activity based booklets so that learning becomes experiential and abiding.
The programme will help raise the level of safety consciousness among the school students in particular and the general public, ensuring increased prevention and preparedness to minimize loss of Life and Property in the State from fire and non-fire emergencies.
Mr R A Venkitachalam, Vice President – Public Safety Mission, Underwriters Laboratories Inc, said, “This collaboration is an extremely important step and a defining moment for both the organizations. The safety of our children is of paramount importance to us as a country and children can play a critical role in ensuring public safety by being aware and being alert. Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Directorate of Education and M/s Underwriters Laboratories(UL) believe that educating children about safety issues should be a vital part of school curriculum. The programme is expected to play a key role towards this goal. Goa is the first state where such a programme is being launched”, he said.
