Sai Sudharsan etched his name into the IPL record books after becoming only the second player to be dismissed hit wicket in a playoff match during Indian Premier League Qualifier 1 between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The unusual dismissal occurred in the third over of Gujarat Titans’ innings, bowled by RCB pacer Jacob Duffy. Sudharsan appeared in fine touch and attempted a stylish cut shot that raced to the boundary for four runs.

However, in a bizarre turn of events, the bat slipped out of Sudharsan’s hands after making contact with the ball and flew backward onto the stumps. The left-hander had already begun running before turning around to realise the stumps had been disturbed, resulting in a hit-wicket dismissal.
Sudharsan’s promising innings came to an abrupt end at 14 runs.
Interestingly, the first-ever hit-wicket dismissal in IPL knockout history was recorded in IPL 2025, when Kusal Mendis, also representing Gujarat Titans against Mumbai Indians, suffered a similar fate.
