Salcete MLAs asked to propose projects under ST scheme

PORVORIM: There is no proposal from Salcete for infrastructure development under the tribal welfare scheme, Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar told the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. 
He said that last year only 57 percent of the funds were utilized and the rest remained unutilized because of lack of infrastructure projects proposals.
“We have money, we want to spend,” the Minister said. He urged Salcete MLAs to make project proposals and assured that none would be kept pending.
He said that most funds for projects for tribal welfare have been utilized in Sanguem, Sanvordem, Quepem and Canacona.
 constituencies.
He said the department has filled 1429 vacancies and 1627 are still pending and said there were unqualified ST candidates for some posts.
