MARGAO: Salcete Truck Owners along with Amchem Goem Amcho Lok urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to find a solution to the problems faced by the truck owners due to lack of business.
Felix Dias of Amchem Goem Amcho Lok said the truck owners were finding it difficult to manage the affairs of the house which is causing all kinds of problems including children turning wayward and quarrels at home over lack of provisions.
“There is nothing the chief minister cannot do and he can very well ask the mining companies to agree to the increase in the rates sought by the truck owners and give them business,” he said.
However, Franky Gomes of the Salcete Truck Owners Association while repeating what Felix said also demanded that the Salcete truck owners be permitted to operate in the mining belt to transport ore as the mining season is set to start immediately.
“The Salcete trucks should be used for transporting ore from the mining sector,” he said while admitting that he owns four trucks and there were many others like him having more than one truck.
Pointing out that there are around 1500 trucks in Salcete that can be used to transport the mining ore, he however said the one time settlement of Rs 8000 offered by the government was too paltry to accept.
