Nitish Kumar, who previously served as Chief Minister and is now a Rajya Sabha MP, stepped down from the post on Tuesday. His resignation led to the dissolution of his Cabinet, where Samrat Choudhary had been serving as Deputy Chief Minister and held the key Home portfolio.

Choudhary’s elevation came after he was named the BJP legislative party leader on Tuesday. The decision was made in the presence of senior party leaders, including BJP state chief Nitin Nabin and Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who had been appointed as the central observer by the BJP parliamentary board to oversee the transition.

Choudhary, who joined the BJP in 2017, has steadily risen within the party ranks in Bihar politics. His appointment as Chief Minister is being seen as a major organisational and political development for the BJP in the state.

The formation of the new government under NDA leadership comes at a time of significant political realignment in Bihar, with alliance partners reaffirming their support. The transition marks a new phase in governance as the coalition prepares to take forward its administrative agenda in the state.
