Sanguem Warriors crowned UAE Goan Premier League champs

RAIA: Sanguem Warriors clinched the Goan Premier League – Late Kassim Usman Khan GPL title – in a thrilling two-run victory over the Mapusa Marvels at the AKW Sports Facilities, Umm Al Quwain.
Organised by Goan Slam Series under Petromann Sports Management, the tournament unfolded on a newly laid grassy green turf surface that offered seam, swing and unpredictable movement – turning the league into a bowlers’ paradise. Boundaries were rare and only batsmen with patience and class were able to produce quality shots.
All six Goan city-based teams participated with great enthusiasm: Margao Tigers, Mapusa Marvels, Sanguem Warriors, Royal Challengers Vasco, Valpoi Kings and Navelim Bhatkaars.
The competition produced scintillating matches throughout the day. In the semi-finals,
Mapusa Marvels defeated the mighty Margao Tigers. Sanguem Warriors overcame the league toppers Royal Challengers Vasco
The final delivered a nerve-shredding finish as Sanguem Warriors held their nerves to emerge champions by just two runs.
GPL Commissioner Shaikh Yakub Murad welcomed all teams during the opening ceremony, where the UAE and India National Anthems were played with pride.
A unified GPL Oath was taken by players and officials, affirming discipline, respect and sportsmanship. The programme was compered by Ijaz Shaikh.
For the prize distribution ceremony, Shaikh Parvez Ahmed, Shaikh Israr, Shaikh Yakub (Murad), Sayed Yakub, Shakil Rajguru, Tanveer Sadekar, Afzal Khan and Fayaz Hamad were present.
